2012 Event News and Photos

February 11, 2012 - we get the year started right by winning the Chowda Challenge. Then on March 20th we won the Innkeepers Race Series. Sure hope our winning trend continues this summer at our BBQ competitions. Check back often for updates and photos.

Innkeepers Race Series

2012 was our third year competing in Okemo's Innkeepers Race Series and our team took first place in the points division. We've got the trophy in the store, come in and check it out. Scores were based on the best 7 out of 10 races that ran from Jan 3 thru March 20, 2012. Teams consist of a maximum of 6 racers, with at least one female racer and there are just over 100 racers. Many thanks to Chris Kleeman at the Okemo Competition Center for his dedication.

The Race Team

Everyone on the team did a great job! We had a great dinner at Hawk Resort's River Tavern. Pictured to the left are first place women's snowboarder Marina getting a vest and glass mug - son Cruise also enjoyed the award ceremony. Tump got a mug for second place on the men's C ski division. Mike got a vest and mug for first place in men's snowboarding. Chelsea's holding her mug for second place in women's snowboarding with back-up boarder Wendy. Tump's cousin John won second in men's snowboarding but he and skier Dave couldn't make it to award night.

Chowda Champs

We won the Ludlow Winter Carnival Chowda Challenge with our Bacon Potato Chowder - it's Tump's favorite soup. Patty Greenwood from the Book Nook presents the award to Tump and Liz Crowley from Streetscapes presents the Silver Ladel to Cindy. We had some tough competion from Sam's Steakhouse Vermont Cheddar Ale Chowder and the Pot Belly's Clam Chowder.

2011 Event News and Photos

July 23 & 24, 2011 - we were at Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, Vermont to compete in their 11th Annual New England BBQ Chamionships! This was our first KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society Nationally sanctioned event. We were one of 40 teams - selected from 400 entries - to compete. Look for us at the 2012 competition. Check out the photos:

Winning Chicken

We won a 5th place ribbon for our Kickin' Chickin! We already know what we need to do to win one of the top 3 spots. It's our Kickin' Chickin Dust that helped us be a top 5 winner.

Harpoon T-shirt

Tump is modeling the back of our T-shirts made for the crew. Thanks to Aaron, Mike R, Devon, Scott B and Scott N and Mike S for heling us sell BBQ platters and sauce. We were very busy preparing our entries for the 4 categories: Pulled Pork, Brisket, Chicken and Ribs. Also thanks to Vermont Tees in Chester, VT - they did a great job on the shirts!

SOW Tent

Next to the BBQ Rig we had our tent and banner set up. We were glad to have some shade, it was one of the hottest weekends of the summer - over 100 degrees! Believe it or not . . . Harpoon Brewery, for the first time, went thru more water than beer that weekend.

SOW BBQ

Mike and Aaron (right) did a great job getting customers to the BBQ window. We had a special menu including corn on the cob - roasted in the husk - it was yummy!

2010 Event News and Photos

September 25 & 26, 2010 events - we cooked a record six pigs!! Check out the photos:

Late Nite Start

Cooking six pigs makes for some late night work. Two of the pigs were started earlier in the day for the Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest public event. It's about 11pm and we just put two more pigs on the roaster for private events.

Good Luck Pig

By the next morning everyone was excited to see so many pigs on the roaster. We like to give them a little pat on the back for good luck.

Four Pigs!

Pitmaster Tump and employee 'Jett' check out the first four pigs, all were about 100 pounds each - two being delivered to the 3rd annual Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest. The other two were for private parties.

The First Little Piggy

Tump's getting ready for the 3rd Annual Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest. With two pigs to deliver and four more to finish cooking for other events, he started pulling the cooked pork. Later he'll deliver the pulled pork with some BBQ sauce to Wallingford Masonic Lodge where the Pig Harvest was held. It took nearly an hour and a half to carve both pigs.

Our 2009 Season was a busy one, our season close was a memorable one on Columbus Day weekend with local events at Cider Days on the Green in Belmont and Saturday night we won the Peoples Choice award for our Ribs at the Streetscapes Throwdown at the Charity Hoedown in Ludlow against Curtis' BBQ.
