Exciting news for 2016 - we appeared in a Food Network Magazine article titled ‘Local Color’ as one of nine recommended places to stop when visiting Vermont during Fall Foliage!!! We also won the People’s Choice Best Overall for our Mac & Cheese @ the Taste of Fall in Ludlow VT. It was also a different year for us but one of the best. We were invited to operate the Green Mountain Horse Association (GMHA) in Woodstock VT and kept us very busy. We were still did lots of pig roasts and private caterings and somehow were also able to compete at Harpoon's BBQ Fest and do BBQ at Hops in the Hills (another 2nd place for our Wings), Bondville Fair and Cider Days!

2015 Event News and Photos

What a busy year, we had something going on just about every weekend this summer! So busy, didn't get many photos but have a short summary of our BBQ activity.

Just had to get a shot of this elaborate Sand Sculpture - took the artist about three weeks to finish sculpting 45 tons of sand!

We traded BBQ with a couple of vendors at the Topsfield Fair - the Pig Chair was made by Hedgehog Designs and got the sign from Wood Carver across the street from us.

Competitions and Events

OCTOBER - Our road trip season closed for the year with the Topsfield Fair in MA, a 15 day fair and a ton of vendors, had a great time but it's always good to be back home! SEPTEMBER - We started the first weekend of the month at the Garlic and Herb Fest in Bennington VT, good variety of vendors and big crowds. We've sold BBQ at the VT State Fair for a few years, but the ticket gate is not very busy and will probably be our last year there. The bacon was in the air when we were at the Brattleboro Baconfest with bacon bowls and candy bacon, can't go wrong at an event like that! We ended the month at the Chester Fall Festival in VT, lots of interesting craft vendors, we always end up buying something.

AUGUST - Our fifth year at Okemo's Hops in the Hills Beer and Wine Fest, won 2nd place for wings and thank you those who voted us. The Bondville Fair, one of the smallest and longest running fair - and THE BEST TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULLS - highly recommend the trip to Bondville VT, it's at the base of Stratton Mountain. A third year at one of our bigger events - Stellafane Telescope Convention in Springfield VT - was a lot of work but always a good time.

JULY - Our fourth year at Harpoon, no wins but it was another great year there, thanks to all who stopped by to see us. Another new event for us was the Wakefield Rotary Hot Air Balloon Festival held in RI, a little windy but a great time and lots of entertainment.

JUNE - we had a busy month with another new event this year, Strolling of the Heifers in Brattleboro, a fun time but too many food vendors. A new competion this year, the Sun BBQ Fest, taking place at the Mohegan Sun Casino in CT - a great spot for any event! The Rockin' Ribfest at the Budweiser Plant in NH was a great time as usual. We catered the Okemo/Sunapee Summer Picnic for nearly 500 people. Another new competition this year was the Not Quite Independance Day BBQ Fest in Middlebury, VT it was a bit rainy but still had a good time.

MAY - A bunch of private pig roasts and for the first year did BBQ at the Brattleboro Brewers Festival, it was a great time and hope to see it grow in the future. We also competed in the third annual Monadnock Up In Smoke BBQ Festival. This was a three day event with lots of fun things to do (despite the weather) - Car Show, Wing Eating Contest, Highlander Keg Toss Competition and Fireworks Saturday night.

MARCH / APRIL - Not bad for so early in year - In May we set up a table at the VT Roots Expo and sold cases of our BBQ sauce wholesale - I know one of the local Jiffy Marts purchased some. In April Magic Mountain hosted East Coast Snocross this year and invited us to be one of the only vendors there, small venue and lots of action!

Okemo Mountain, Ludlow VT

We're still open over at the base of the Southface Lift @ Okemo. It's a great spot, and has a firepit too.

2014 Event News and Photos

Seems like we get busier every year! We're still on Okemo Mountain, but changed locations - we're now at the base of the Southface Lift. We're lining up a great BBQ schedule - lots of pig roasts and catering of course, but have some new Competitions, Fairs and Festivals. We won 5th place for our Chicken Wings at Manadnock Up In Smoke BBQ Festival in Swanzy, NH. We also won a a contest for our trailer set up at Topsfield Fair. Thanks to all of our BBQ fans that came out to see us at: Monadnock Up in Smoke BBQ Fest, Anheuser-Busch Rockn' Ribfest, Green Mountain Soccer Tournament, Brattleboro 4th of July, Troy Pig Out, Stellfane Telescope Convention, Hops in the Hills Brewfest, Sam's Club National Tour in Scarborough ME, Bondville Fair, Okemo Valley Car Show, VT State Fair, Brattleboror Baconfest, Burning Mouth Festival, Slam at the Dam Music Fest, Topsfield Fair in Mass., and Cider Days.

Topsfield Fair

This was our first time at the Topsfield fair, just north of Boston, Mass. We were suprised when they informed us that we were winners of their Best Trailer Award - a First Place Blue Ribbon. We were voted Best Trailer by a panel of volunteer judges. They tour the fair and consider many factors in deciding which vendors are the best of the best . . . initial impression, approachability, product, presentation, creativity, cleanliness, and of course how you add to the Fairgoers' experience! And let me tell you, this is a giant fair - there were over 100 trailers there and they also had awards for best tent and best building. We had a great time and they had lots of food choices - hand carved turkey sandwich with stuffing & cranberry sauce, Italian Rice Balls and a chili parfait with layers of chili, cheese, cornbread and topped with sour cream and a cherry tomato - all delicious!

Rockn' Ribfest

Our second year at the Ribfest - Okemo's sign shop did a great job on banners for our trailer set up.

Remember last year - Ruben Arroco from Culinary Artworks? He does some great carvings using food. This year he made us a special watermelon carving!

Monadnock Up In Smoke

We had a great time at the second annual Monadnock Up In Smoke BBQ Festival. Won a 5th place trophy for our Chicken Wings. This was a three day event with lots of fun things to do - Car Show, Wing Eating Contest, Highlander Keg Toss Competition and Fireworks Saturday night.

Okemo Mountain, Ludlow VT

We're in a new spot at Okemo - over at the base of the Southface Lift. There's a big resort project in the area - Southface Village there will be a lodge and ski-out homes and townhouses. The eatery cabin in the background was built with some help of a friend - he even provided most of the wood and some vintage tools for the building. It's a great spot, and has a firepit too.

We even have our own trail sign and we're also on the Trail Map and in the Okemo Magazine. We really like the Southface area :) We've got lots of BBQ fans skiing up for sandwiches, ribs and our BBQ Burrito. Okemo produced a video for showing on the main mountain jumbotron - it's all about Squeels on Wheels and our new Southface location, starring . . . Tump! You can view the video on our Homepage.

2013 Event News and Photos

We are very excited to announce a new winter location at Okemo Mountain. Our BBQ Concession trailer will be parked and selling 'ski-thru' BBQ at the base of the Solitude lift, right behind the Epic Restaurant!! When the winter season is over we've got a great BBQ schedule lined up - lots of pig roasts and catering but also some Competitions, Fairs and Festivals. We won 3rd place in the Spice Stand Off for our Spicy Pork at the Burning Mouth Festival in Queeche. Rockn' Ribfest

Every Father's Day weekend at the Budweiser Plant in Merrimack, NH - The Rockn' Ribfest is held. It's our fist year being a 'Ribber' and we're set up next to some big names in BBQ. The Ribfest Mascot Squeelz came to visit us, but he didn't stick around long after seeing how big our pig roaster is! Just kidding, we had a great time - what could be better than spending the weekend at the Budweiser Plant!

We sure cooked up ALOT of BBQ - just look at the first round of ribs keeping warm on our roaster. There were eight other ribbers there and lots of other food choices, great music and brewery tours. There was lots of fun for the kids too - lots of bouncing. All the ribbers are set up at the back of the field - we could see the Clydsdale team and their barn.

We also met a great food artist - Ruben Arroco - he works magic carving all kinds of things using food - fruit, butter, chocolate, ice - he does great work. It was fun to watch and he gave us a couple of carved melons at the end of the show - they were delicious too!

Okemo Mountain, Ludlow VT

Get 'ski-thru' BBQ from Squeels on Wheels at the base of the Solitude lift on Okemo Mountain, located behind the Epic Restaurant. We've got our regular BBQ menu of pulled pork and chicken, beef brisket, spare ribs and of course our BBQ Burrito. We'll also be selling some breakfast items, coffee and hot chocolate. We had a great BBQ season and we're ready for a busy winter - we've got big news for 2013!

Western Maine BBQ Festival

In August we traveled to Fryeburg, Maine for the Western Maine BBQ Festival at the Fairgrounds. We were very excited when we heard our team called for Second Place Pork Tenderloin!

Meatball Rumble, Ludlow VT

The Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Meatball Rumble was held on Friday 22 June at the Ludlow Community Center. Ten contestants entered the Rumble. Entries ranged from traditional Italian to Swedish to modern interpretations. It was a close contest - we won Second Place!

Lexington BBQ Battle

On Friday afternoon, May 18 - we traveled to Lexington, Mass. for the MA State BBQ Championship. We had a great set up spot near the event entrance. Not only did we compete, but also sold BBQ. The Okemo sign shop did a great job on the banners. The event was organized by Meat@Slims and took place on 19 & 20 May, and the BBQ competion was on Sunday.

Lexington BBQ - Live Music

The event started at 11am and ended at 5pm on Saturday, May 19. Sunday began at Noon with the first BBQ turn in - Chicken. There were great performances by local bands both days. Nearly 4,000 people came thru the gates over the weekend. We were hoping to take home one of the awesome awards made by Nicole Humphrey, who was also one of the BBQ competitors!

Lexington BBQ - Turn In

There were 25 teams competing in four categories - Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket. Our entries looked yummy! Turn in times were Noon for Chicken, 12:30 for Ribs, 1pm for pulled pork and 1:30 for brisket. We were up against some local BBQ experts like the Smokin' Hoggz - winners of the top prize in October 2011 at the Jack Daniels Invitational Only BBQ Competition.

Innkeepers Race Series

2012 was our third year competing in Okemo's Innkeepers Race Series and our team took first place in the points division. We've got the trophy in the store, come in and check it out. Scores were based on the best 7 out of 10 races that ran from Jan 3 thru March 20, 2012. Teams consist of a maximum of 6 racers, with at least one female racer and there are just over 100 racers. Many thanks to Chris Kleeman at the Okemo Competition Center for his dedication.

The Race Team

Everyone on the team did a great job! We had a great dinner at Hawk Resort's River Tavern. Pictured to the left are first place women's snowboarder Marina getting a vest and glass mug - son Cruise also enjoyed the award ceremony. Tump got a mug for second place on the men's C ski division. Mike got a vest and mug for first place in men's snowboarding. Chelsea's holding her mug for second place in women's snowboarding with back-up boarder Wendy. Tump's cousin John won second in men's snowboarding but he and skier Dave couldn't make it to award night.

Chowda Champs

We won the Ludlow Winter Carnival Chowda Challenge with our Bacon Potato Chowder - it's Tump's favorite soup. Patty Greenwood from the Book Nook presents the award to Tump and Liz Crowley from Streetscapes presents the Silver Ladel to Cindy. We had some tough competion from Sam's Steakhouse Vermont Cheddar Ale Chowder and the Pot Belly's Clam Chowder.

2011 Event News and Photos

2011 is another big year for Squeels on Wheels and Ludlow Country Store. We'll be selling snowmobile fuel beginning in February. And, July 23 & 24, 2011 - we were at Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, Vermont to compete in their 11th Annual New England BBQ Chamionships! This was our first KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) Nationally sanctioned event. We were one of 40 teams - selected from 400 entries - to compete - and won a 5th place ribbon for our Chicken! Look for us at the 2012 competition. Check out the photos:

Winning Chicken

We won a 5th place ribbon for our Kickin' Chickin! We already know what we need to do to win one of the top 3 spots. It's our Kickin' Chickin Dust that helped us be a top 5 winner.

Harpoon T-shirt

Tump is modeling the back of our T-shirts made for the crew. Thanks to Aaron, Mike R, Devon, Scott B and Scott N and Mike S for heling us sell BBQ platters and sauce. We were very busy preparing our entries for the 4 categories: Pulled Pork, Brisket, Chicken and Ribs. Also thanks to Vermont Tees in Chester, VT - they did a great job on the shirts!

SOW Tent

Next to the BBQ Rig we had our tent and banner set up. We were glad to have some shade, it was one of the hottest weekends of the summer - over 100 degrees! Believe it or not . . . Harpoon Brewery, for the first time, went thru more water than beer that weekend.

SOW BBQ

Mike and Aaron (right) did a great job getting customers to the BBQ window. We had a special menu including corn on the cob - roasted in the husk - it was yummy!

WE HAVE FUEL FOR SLEDS

One of our big projects we started when we bought the stor last year, was to install a gas tank for snowmobile fuel. We're snowmobile fans and have always found it tough to find around here - so, since the trail is right behind the store, we decided to offer fuel here. After nearly nine months of paperwork and bueracracy, in February we have fuel for sale!

2010 Event News and Photos

September 25 & 26, 2010 events - we cooked a record six pigs!! Check out the photos:

Late Nite Start

Cooking six pigs makes for some late night work. Two of the pigs were started earlier in the day for the Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest public event. It's about 11pm and we just put two more pigs on the roaster for private events.

Good Luck Pig

By the next morning everyone was excited to see so many pigs on the roaster. We like to give them a little pat on the back for good luck.

Four Pigs!

Pitmaster Tump and employee 'Jett' check out the first four pigs, all were about 100 pounds each - two being delivered to the 3rd annual Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest. The other two were for private parties.

The First Little Piggy

Tump's getting ready for the 3rd Annual Epilepsy Foundation Pig Harvest. With two pigs to deliver and four more to finish cooking for other events, he started pulling the cooked pork. Later he'll deliver the pulled pork with some BBQ sauce to Wallingford Masonic Lodge where the Pig Harvest was held. It took nearly an hour and a half to carve both pigs.

Our 2009 Season was a busy one, our season close was a memorable one on Columbus Day weekend with local events at Cider Days on the Green in Belmont and Saturday night we won the Peoples Choice award for our Ribs at the Streetscapes Throwdown at the Charity Hoedown in Ludlow against Curtis' BBQ.
